Welcome. I am genuinely glad you are here – and I mean that in the way that a person means it when they have spent years working toward something they believe matters deeply, and they finally have the opportunity to share it with the people it was built for. My name is Lionella Blake, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of Betts Healthcare Institute. I am a Registered Nurse Executive, a Case Manager, a healthcare operations leader, a two-time published author, an educator, a PhD candidate, and a woman whose entire professional life has been invested in the rooms where healthcare decisions are made — in the ICU and the mother-baby unit, at the utilization review desk and in the executive suite, on the phone with payers on the wekends and in boardrooms making the case for the teams I had been trusted to lead. I built Betts Healthcare Institute because I kept encountering the same pattern everywhere I went in healthcare: extraordinary clinical talent operating inside broken systems, without the education, the leadership infrastructure, or the strategic support required to perform at the level their patients, their organizations, and their own professional excellence deserved. I decided that I had the knowledge, the experience, and the God-given responsibility to do something about that. And here we are.
Betts Healthcare Institute was not built to be another healthcare training company offering generic content in an overcrowded market. It was built to be the resource that actually closes the gap, the gap between clinical knowledge and operational execution, between leadership aspiration and leadership capacity, between the care management program that is struggling and the one that is thriving, between the nurse who is undervalued and the nurse executive who is leading with full authority. Everything I have created here – the courses, the consulting programs, the certification preparation resources, the YouTube content, the books, the blog – carries the full weight of what I have personally learned across 18 years of clinical nursing, utilization review, case management leadership, managed care operations, and healthcare executive practice. I have led teams of 55 to 123 professionals. I have led care teams managing from about 5,000 to 70,000 Medicaid members. I have covered senior-level responsibility during sudden executive departures. I have reduced ED utilization by 15%, readmissions by 20%, and documentation errors by 50% through the specific interventions I am teaching in this institute. I have also been on life support, and I came back with a clarity about the time I have, the purpose I carry, and the people I am supposed to serve that has made everything I build sharper, more intentional, and more genuinely committed to producing outcomes that matter.
